All the biggest coding bootcamp news from 2023! And our 3 predictions for 2024! View this email in your browser It's our favorite newsletter of the year – we look back at the AI-frenzy that was 2023 and reflect on the major trends in coding bootcamps – plus, a few predictions for 2024. For our take on 2023, listen to the podcast (35 mins) or read the roundup! READ THE ROUNDUP // LISTEN TO THE PODCAST! The highlights from this year... In January, layoffs at Big Tech companies dominated the headlines, but non-tech companies continued to hire and skills-based hiring took hold at the state and local level.  In February, Coding Dojo was acquired by Perdoceo for $52.8M, the largest acquisition of 2023. Lighthouse Labs was granted $21.1M in federal funding to help Canadians reskill, and Springboard unveiled it's $1M Career Reboot Scholarship program. On International Women's Day's in March, we spoke with four women who broke into tech through a coding bootcamp. In April, OpenAI launched ChatGPT and bootcamps released updated curriculum and new courses to help people learn in-demand AI skills. Careerist closed an $8M Series A funding round – the biggest fundraise of the month.  Tech layoffs began to wind down in May, and a Lightcast report showed that demand and salaries for IT jobs increased outside of Big Tech companies in the U.S.  Cybersecurity hiring was top of mind in June — 74% of IT employers reported trouble filling open roles. We hosted a Live Q&A where four bootcamp experts demystified how to launch a cybersecurity career, from certifications to entry-level roles.  In July, a new bipartisan bill was introduced to modernize the National Apprenticeship Act, and a rise in employer-sponsored corporate training is helping people climb the career ladder with in-demand skills – bootcamps supported both! In August, sensationalized AI salaries made headlines, but our Live Q&A with four expert panelists broke down what "working with AI" can actually mean and how to incorporate AI tools into your current role.  Kicking off the school year in September, VET TEC officially received a new round of funding and 4Geeks Academy merged with Boca Code in Florida.  In October, two surveys showed how AI skills could significantly boost salaries, but also how AI could automate away women's careers disproportionately. A flurry of international fundraises made news in November: Earlywork raised $1.5M and Spotted Zebra closed a £7.7M Series A round. Cognizant launched its new AI skills training program, called Synapse, and Merit America unveiled its Skills-to-Staff upskilling program. In December,  the House announced a new Bipartisan Workforce Pell Act and a renewed interest in updating the WIOA program. The Dept. of Labor proposed new rule making to modernize the National Apprenticeship System.  CLICK HERE FOR OUR 2024 PREDICTIONS And as for us, we're wishing you a healthy and successful 2024.
