The highlights from this year...
- In January, layoffs at Big Tech companies dominated the headlines, but non-tech companies continued to hire and skills-based hiring took hold at the state and local level.
- In February, Coding Dojo was acquired by Perdoceo for $52.8M, the largest acquisition of 2023. Lighthouse Labs was granted $21.1M in federal funding to help Canadians reskill, and Springboard unveiled it's $1M Career Reboot Scholarship program.
- On International Women's Day's in March, we spoke with four women who broke into tech through a coding bootcamp.
- In April, OpenAI launched ChatGPT and bootcamps released updated curriculum and new courses to help people learn in-demand AI skills. Careerist closed an $8M Series A funding round – the biggest fundraise of the month.

- Tech layoffs began to wind down in May, and a Lightcast report showed that demand and salaries for IT jobs increased outside of Big Tech companies in the U.S.
- Cybersecurity hiring was top of mind in June — 74% of IT employers reported trouble filling open roles. We hosted a Live Q&A where four bootcamp experts demystified how to launch a cybersecurity career, from certifications to entry-level roles.
- In July, a new bipartisan bill was introduced to modernize the National Apprenticeship Act, and a rise in employer-sponsored corporate training is helping people climb the career ladder with in-demand skills – bootcamps supported both!
- In August, sensationalized AI salaries made headlines, but our Live Q&A with four expert panelists broke down what "working with AI" can actually mean and how to incorporate AI tools into your current role.

- Kicking off the school year in September, VET TEC officially received a new round of funding and 4Geeks Academy merged with Boca Code in Florida.
- In October, two surveys showed how AI skills could significantly boost salaries, but also how AI could automate away women's careers disproportionately.

A flurry of international fundraises made news in November: Earlywork raised $1.5M and Spotted Zebra closed a £7.7M Series A round. Cognizant launched its new AI skills training program, called Synapse, and Merit America unveiled its Skills-to-Staff upskilling program.
- In December, the House announced a new Bipartisan Workforce Pell Act and a renewed interest in updating the WIOA program. The Dept. of Labor proposed new rule making to modernize the National Apprenticeship System.
